Project: Tutoring For Migrants
Tutoring for Migrants is a programme by Allyship Projects designed to support migrant students from Year 6 to Year 10 as they adapt to a new education system and language in Aotearoa.
Moving to a new country often brings academic and language challenges. This programme was created to help students bridge those gaps by providing structured academic support in a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment.
Through regular sessions, students receive guidance that strengthens both their academic skills and their confidence, helping them better navigate school and feel more comfortable in their learning journey.
What we offer
The programme is delivered three times per week, focusing on key subjects and practical support:
- Maths foundation to build strong numerical skills
- Science foundation to support understanding of core concepts
- English support to improve language confidence and communication
- Homework assistance to reinforce school learning
Each session is designed not only to improve academic performance but also to empower students to participate actively in their classrooms.
Family Learning & Community Connection
A key component of the programme is its family-centred approach.
On Sundays, we host Free Family Fun Days, where learning happens through games and interactive activities. These sessions create opportunities for families to engage together, strengthen bonds, and become part of a supportive community.
A space to grow and belong
Tutoring for Migrants is more than academic support — it is a space where students can:
- Adapt to a new system with confidence
- Build friendships and feel included
- Develop independence in their learning
- Grow in a supportive and culturally aware environment
